SLSA Next Wave Paddling Squads

Does your sprint canoe club cater to surf club members pursuing a dual-sport pathway? Or does your surf club have a kayak-specific training squad? You could be part of an exciting opportunity offered by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) to support surf athletes to enter the pathway toward becoming elite sprint kayakers.

Registrations are now open for the SLSA Next Wave Paddling Squad initiative.

The Next Wave Paddling Squads aim to:

  • Create a pathway into Australian Canoeing’s (AC) elite development programs for surf athletes;
  • Improve the daily training environment for surf athletes to enhance their sprint kayak ability;
  • Enhance results at AC and SLSA State and National Championships;

Squads will be assessed based upon their involvement and performance at both SLSA and AC events during the 2013/2014 season, and accredited under a two-tiered structure.

Successful Next Wave Paddling Squads will receive financial support to assist coaching and operations, some outfitting and craft, as well as athlete and coach development opportunities.
