Robert McIntyre starts his European Wildwater campaign this weekend in an international sprint race on the 'Ice Canal' course in Augsburg Germany.
He left Australia at the end of last month and is basing himself in Rosenheim Germany near the Austrian border where he is training in the lead up to further events which include the German National Championships at the end of the month before being joined by Madeleine Batters the other Australian Wildwater representative. They will then be moving over to northern Italy to train and then compete in the World Championships on the demanding Adda River. McIntyre was 9th in last year's World Cup sprint race on this river and is hoping to better that result this year.
After the World Championships McIntyre and Batters move on to Austria for 4 World Cup races over a 2 week period with 3 in Lofer and 1 on the new man made whitewater course in Vienna.
Following the Wildwater tour McIntyre moves back to Italy to join the under 23 Australian Flatwater team where they will train until they move over to Szeged Hungary where he will partner Mark Stowe in the K2 200 metres at this year's Under 23 World Flatwater championships.
